A unique and exciting journey to discover the true “Gallura” by green train (old diesel locomotives) that will go through the historic railroad which has been connecting the inner Gallura with the coast since the end of 800.
From Palau Marina (facing the island of La Maddalena) through a rapid rise, we will cling to the granite hills overlooking Palau, where you can enjoy a splendid scenery of the coast and the hills of Gallura. In the first part of the trip you will enjoy the contrast between the sea and the hill with a wonderful play of light that will radically change after going through a tunnel, and will bring us towards the pink granite rocks overlooking the small villages of the northern Gallura.
Once we pass the Liscia Lake we will arrive in the last stop of our tour, the town of Luras with its station at 500 meters high.
A driver will be waiting for us and will take us to visit the town where, who wants to, can visit the Ethnographic Museum and the Femmina Accabadora that with the typical wooden hammer alleviated the sufferings of the dying men.
After the visit at the museum, the tour will continue to the millenary olive trees, where you will admire the “Monna Lisa Sarda”, the oldest natural monument in Italy, which with its three thousand years overlooks the valley of Santu Baltolu.
This tree is a wild olive (Olea oleaster o Olea europaea var. sylvestris) and at 1.3 meters above the ground has a circumference of about 12 meters and a height of 8 meters.
Our tour will take us to discover the true traditional flavours of Sardinian cuisine in the Funtana Abbas, farmhouse a picturesque location on the Liscia Lake where, thanks to the wisdom and art of the chef, you will enjoy delicious food, handed down from generation to generation.
After lunch we will take some time to relax in the shade of the vegetation of Gallura, before moving on.
Later, we will move towards the Luras station to take once again “our green train” that will take us back, through a fantastic descent, in Palau, where we will take the bus to return to Olbia.
